The Fred A. Olds annual poetry celebration is upon us! We've already had a lot of great entries, and I know that we'll have more fantastic ones to come. Don't forget to stop by the library to drop off your entries or just to pick up some pocket poems and fabulous books of poems. Also, check out the amazing display created by several of our wonderful parents in the main entrance of the school!
To celebrate, here's one of my favorite poems from when I was an elementary student:
Eletelephony
by Laura E. Richards
Once there was an elephant,
Who tried to use the telephant-
No! No! I mean an elephone
Who tried to use the telephone-
(Dear me! I am not certain quite
That even now I've got it right.)
Howe'er it was, he got his trunk
Entangled in the telephunk;
The more he tried to get it free,
The louder buzzed the telephee-
(I fear I'd better drop the song
Of elephop and telephong!)
From The Oxford Book of Children's Verse in America
Chosen and Edited by Donald Hall
Happy writing, everyone!
